R.I.P. Darren McGavin
Actor Darren McGavin passed away yesterday at the age of 83. To 40-year-old geeks like me, he’ll always be known as Carl Kolchak of The Night Stalker -- the precursor to The X-Files.

To 38 year old's like me, he will always be knows as the Dad in the movie 'A Christmas Story'.
I don't know if you remember this, but there was a TV movie called The Night Strangler that led to the Night Stalker series. That was actually pretty scary to a kid my age (only a wee bit older than you).
Happy belated birthday, BTW. Hope you had a fun party.
Claude, actually there were two TV movies. The Night Stalker was the first one about the vampire in Las Vegas. That was followed by The Night Strangler. Since the ratings on both were good, they went ahead and created the series.
